Breidtinden's north face rises dramatically above Mefjorden, and has around 500-metre climbing routes despite the mountain itself being only 1,001 m high.

Thick fog can sometimes appear very quickly after sunset, as humid air cools to its dew point. The tall mountains to the mid-left are the two iconic peaks Grytetippen and Keipen.

In some Sámi traditions, the Northern Lights were believed to be the souls of the dead. Because of this, people treated the aurora with great respect and were warned not to whistle, shout, or wave at it—otherwise it might notice them and come down to take them away.
